History of Mechanics in Laurel MD - Thoroughbred Auto Care

Thoroughbred Transmissions was founded in 1979 when Stephen started building transmissions for friends in the evenings and on the weekends. By 1992, Stephen and I realized that we had a big problem. When I came home from work I would find customers waiting in our driveway for Stephen to work on their vehicles. The phone rang constantly for Stephen’s advice and to set up appointments. We agreed that we either needed to start turning customers away or consider opening a full time facility.

So we started our search for a convenient location and found an empty facility in need of major repairs. Working with our new landlord the building was repaired and Thoroughbred Transmissions opened their doors for business in early January of 1993. Stephen and I decided to open a full service facility to better meet the needs of the community.

We decided to change the name of our business to, Thoroughbred Transmissions and AutoCare Incorporated. With the continuous growth of Thoroughbred, I decided to leave my full time job in November of 1999 to work full time managing Thoroughbred’s books.

We were able to purchase the lot and have enlarged our facility to better serve our customers needs. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our customers, for you have been a major part in our success. Without our customers our progress would not have been possible.
