Serpentine Belt
Serpentine Belt in Scaggsville, Laurel, Fulton, Clarksville & Columbia MD
Are you aware of that Long Belt that snakes around the front of your engine? It’s called the serpentine belt. The serpentine belt is driven by the engine as it turns. It makes the alternator, air conditioning compressor, power steering pump, and on some vehicles it also runs the water pump, radiator fan and even your power brakes. To say this belt is Important would be an understatement!

While you’re near Laurel, Scaggsville, Columbia, Maple Lawn Farms, Fulton or even Highland MD, if this belt or it’s tensioner were to fail, you would lose all of the above systems, your battery would quickly run down, you would lose power steering and your engine would soon overheat. If this were to happen on I-95 or I- 70, at high speed it would be a real problem.

Most Owner’s manuals do not have a suggested time change interval, instead the belt and its related components are to be inspected and then advised on replacement. Here at Thoroughbred Auto Care we have been trained to look for certain tell-tale signs and recommend replacement. We have found a safe point of 3-4 years or 50,000 miles to be preventive replacement time.
We highly recommend you have the belt and tensioner inspected before you travel this winter, while the college kids are home for the holidays and especially if you don’t know when it was last replaced. Stephen, Owner of Thoroughbred Auto Care
